IN response to the comments by Thomas Zachariah George in a letter published in StarMetro on May 27, we first thank him for the positive suggestions.
We wish to highlight some of the initiatives we have undertaken, such as the revamped Tourism Selangor’s Discover Selangor campaign which has created a strong platform for the state attractions in both the global and local tourism markets.
The accompanying “Heart of Malaysia” tagline aims to strengthen the current promotional campaign, specifically referring to Selangor as a hub for transportation, development, investment, business, education as well as medicine.
Among the highlights of events lined up for this year are the Selangor International Indigenous Arts Festival 2017 in August, the ongoing weekend Royal Klang Heritage Walk programme, the Malaysia Women Marathon 2017 that took place in March as well as the Visit Klang Year and Hulu Selangor Year celebrations.
Tourism Selangor has drawn up a comprehensive plan to further strengthen the state’s tourism industry this year.
We also share a good relationship with the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents Selangor Chapter, which boasts a membership of over 3,100, comprising local tour and travel organisations as well as numerous overseas affiliations.
This collaboration has allowed Tourism Selangor to aggressively introduce tour packages featuring various destinations in the state and initiate tie-ups with local and international travel agencies to launch special travel packages based on market demand.
Through Tourism Selangor, the state is also planning and implementing community-based tourism development through “Training Modules in Development and Community Host” targeted at tour guides in all nine districts.
We also work closely with the Tourism and Culture Ministry and Tourism Malaysia in organising events to raise public awareness as well as educate tour agencies on Selangor’s tourism products and services.
