KIDEX will cut through the core of Petaling Jaya.
The only way that the highway should be built is by making it underground at the city centre, that is between the Jalan Templer/Jalan Penchala roundabout to the open area behind SS2 Mall.
Section 12 is located just outside the central core of the city, and consists of two schools and about 600 houses. It has, until recently, been a neighbourhood of choice occupied mainly by senior citizens, most of whom are retired.
It is surrounded by major roads such as Jalan Barat, Jalan Semangat, Jalan Kemajuan, Jalan Universiti and Jalan Bukit.
Over the years, the vehicle population within Section 12 has increased many folds, causing an increase in congestion along its roads.
To complicate matters, many of the residential roads such as Jalan 12/12, 12/13, 12/15, 12/16 and 12/19 have all become routes for non-resident traffic moving from one section of Petaling Jaya to another. In other words, these residential roads are being used as a shortcut by non-resident motorists as well as by bus and lorry drivers.
Kidex, if constructed, will have an exit ramp discharging vehicles onto Jalan Utara in front of Crystal Crown Hotel.
The bulk of the traffic from this exit coming from Puchong, Bandar Sunway and Sungai Way will go on to enter Jalan Bukit, heading to Universiti Malaya or Sections 13 and 17.
The additional traffic will worsen the congestion along Jalan Bukit.
If a roadway is required to connect the Puchong areas to North-South Highway, the alignment should be located along a corridor outside the central core of Petaling Jaya.
Any section of the road traversing a busy section of the city should be underground so as not to add any more traffic to existing congested roads.
