UTM encourages its tutors to take a stab at running their own business


Dr Arham says to create an entrepreneurial mindset, lecturers should take a sabbatical to focus on growing a company.

GETTING academics to commercialise their know-how and start businesses is vital in enhancing academia-private sector collaboration, says Assoc Prof Dr Arham Abdullah, industry relation division director at the Higher Education Ministry.

He said Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), for example, introduced its Intellectual Property Commercialisation Policy in June 2014 to help inventors and managers carry out commercialisation activities more efficiently.
