THIS year’s FIABCI Malaysia Property Award Gala Dinner saw 13 awards, more than in any previous years, presented to developers and two individuals who have showcased a high level of overall excellence in their respective projects.

The event recognised IJM Corp Bhd chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Soam Heng Choon as this year’s Property CEO while Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd group executive vice-chairman Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo was named Property Man of the Year.

In his speech, Soam thanked his team whom he described as his daily inspiration.

“I would not have been able to do alone what I have accomplished, which is why I have to thank the team for their preserverance and commitment to everything we do,” he said, adding that he believed in always delivering what had been promised.

Soam was until recently IJM Land Bhd’s chief executive officer and managing director, and had been instrumental in ensuring the success of the thriving Seremban 2 township that was launched right before the 1998 economic crisis hit the country.

Lim, who is said to have incredible foresight in business, has more than 40 years experience in the plantation and construction industries.

It was his determination that had contributed to his drive to succeed and eventually founded Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd, which is the master developer for prime waterfront land within Iskandar Malaysia.

Front Concept Sdn Bhd, developer for the Senibong Cove property within Iskandar Malaysia as well, took home two awards at the dinner, one for Master Plan and another for Environmental, which is given specifically to its rehabilitation works on Sungai Lunchu.

This year saw a new award category being introduced, the Residential – Mid Rise, which was given to Dedaun that was recently completed by developer Selangor Dredging Bhd (SDB).

The project is located in Ampang Hilir, Kuala Lumpur, in an area that was once graced by colonial bungalows. It is this understated style of living and old-world charm that SDB brings to Dedaun.
