A&W (MALAYSIA) Sdn Bhd, which has 24 restaurants throughout the country, is looking for suitable locations to increase the number of outlets to 30 by the end of the year.

A&W chief executive officer Samad Mohd Shariff said several locations are being considered for the new restaurants.

Speaking after signing a partnership agreement between KUB Malaysia Bhd and Suntory Beverage & Food Malaysia Sdn Bhd at the A&W PJ Palms Sport Centre outlet on Sunday, he said there were also plans to set up outlets in Sabah and Sarawak over the next five years. KUB is the franchise holder for the A&W restaurants in Malaysia.

The collaboration with Suntory, which manufactures and distributes Ribena beverages and other confectionary products, is aimed at creating more opportunities and benefits.

A&W Malaysia chairman Datuk Jamelah A Bakar, who is also KUB director, launched the the fast food chain’s promotions for Ramadan, which begins today.

She said the original A&W restaurant which opened in 1965, would not be demolished but would be refurbished over the next few months, adding that there was much sentimental value attached to the iconic outlet which was famous as a film location for movies in the 1970s, including the legendary Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s ‘Gelora’.
