THE official KL2017 SEA Games merchandise and apparel launched this week by Universal Fitness and Leisure Sdn Bhd (UFL) and Football Thai (FBT) is banking on good looks, quality and attractive pricing.
The collection will be available from July at UFL’s key retail partners comprising hypermarkets, department stores and sports retailers nationwide as well as at all 33 SEA Games and Asean Para Games venues during the duration of the games.
“Our objective is to give the public a feel of the SEA Games spirit prior to the games itself and be part of the celebration,” said UFL Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Radha Krishnan.
“This is about the whole country and we want to make sure the attire is seen all over, so people can feel proud that they are part of it,” he noted.
UFL is no stranger to the Malaysian sporting scene, being one of the main equipment suppliers for the last SEA Games and the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
The company has been directly involved in the development of sports such as lawn bowl, gymnastics and archery from their infancy.
“Our appointment as distributor of FBT’s SEA Games apparel is timely as we were eager to play a role in the SEA Games this year.
“We have already identified key partners to work closely with to ensure wider distribution and visibility of the merchandise,” he said, adding that the merchandise would be available at selected Aeon, Tesco and Al Ikhsan branches as well as UFL’s e-commerce platform gooutdoor.com.my.
SEA Games organising committee (Masoc) chief executive officer Datuk Zolkples Embong, who was at the launch, said the partnership with FBT would give fans more choice when it came to memorabilia compared to the previous Games.
The merchandise produced by Thailand’s biggest sporting goods manufacturer FBT will be made available until sometime after the Asean Para Games concludes and is expected to generate between RM1.5mil and RM2mil from sales.
The brand may sound new to Malaysians but Thailand’s biggest sporting goods manufacturer has been around for over 60 years in the domestic market and is a 29th SEA Games platinum and official attire sponsor.
“The SEA Games collection is designed by FBT in accordance with Masoc guidelines and feature all the usual wicking and sweat absorption technologies,” FBT director of international marketing Thamchai Chokephaibulkit said after the launch and appointment of UFL as the Malaysian distributor of official SEA Games merchandise.
“We put in a lot of effort to produce high quality products of international standard with the same apparel technologies as other leading brands so fans can enjoy great designs and quality prints at the right price.
”We’re committed to producing the best quality product and I hope Malaysians will like them.
“This is the first time that a FBT collection will be widely available in Malaysia. The designs will be a one-time production so there is going to be limited quantities,” he added.
