FAVOURITES Emkay-NPNG and newcomers Bukit Kapar have qualified for the final of the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) FA Cup competition.
In the semi-finals played at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) Sports Complex, Emkay-NPNG showed their might when they defeated PKNS 3-0 while Bukit Kapar edged Royal Selangor Club (RSC) 1-0.
The match between Emkay-NPNG and PKNS was expected to be an interesting one as both are contenders in the Super Division. However Emkay-NPNG, the defending champions, were in fine form and dominated the match.
Emkay-NPNG, one of the most consistent teams in the FAS league, took the lead in the 14th minute when captain Mohd Raffi Mansor scored.
The opening goal proved to be an inspiration as Emkay-NPNG went on to score two more goals through Mohd Saufi Mohd Ibrahim and Mohd Badrul Hisyam Azmi in the 45th and 48th minutes, respectively.
Despite trailing, PKNS tried their best to get the goals but found the Emkay-NPNG rearguard in an uncompromising mood.
Emkay-NPNG coach Michael Palani said it was a tough match and the scoreline did not reflect the intensity of the match.
“PKNS matched us but we took the chances that came our way. The scoreline was also encouraging and we are now looking ahead to the final,’’ said Michael.
PKNS team manager Mohd Zairy Zakaria said it was unfortunate they had to be beaten by Emkay-NPNG once again.
“The players gave their best but the goals did not come. In knock-out competition, we cannot afford to take it easy. We now have to concentrate on the Super Division,’’ said Mohd Zairy.
The match, between Bukit Kapar and RSC was a keenly contested one. Both teams, from the Premier Division in the FAS League, were unbeaten.
Bukit Kapar’s winning goal came from Mohd Salifi Ibrahim in the 36th minute of the match.
FAS competition committee deputy chairman Datuk S. Sivasundram said they would meet soon to decide on the date for the final.
“We would like to congratulate both Emkay-NPNG and Bukit Kapar for making the final. We are looking forward to an exciting and interesting final. Emkay-NPNG will be eager to defend the crown while Bukit Kapar will be determined to create an upset,’’ said Sivasundram.
Meanwhile, Selangor Indian Association-PIB scored a 3-0 win over former champions Sultan Sulaiman Club in the Super Division Group A match while Kuala Langat District Football Association edged Tanjung Karang 3-2.
In Group B, Shah Alam City Council stayed in contention for a quarter-final berth with a 3-0 win over Belia Selangor.
