MALACCA: The Malacca Club organised their maiden invitational nine-aside hockey tournament by inviting senior hockey players from the state as well as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
The club’s sports committee spokesman P. Aravindran said they wanted to keep up their skills in the sport despite the age factor.
“Besides organising this tournament on an annual basis, our club is also planning to have a junior development programme.
“We want to reignite passion for the sport as well as recognise talent and draw interest from schoolchildren,” he said.
Club Rock Adventure from Kuala Lumpur emerged as champions against Club Commonwealth Games 98 in the finals with a 4 -3 score after penalty strokes.
The winning team was awarded a trophy, medals and RM800.
The event also saw Mohamad Airul Fahemy, 16, from Club Patched Up Boys being awarded best goalkeeper while Selvarajoo Muthukrishnan, 37, was named outstanding player.
