MORE than 200 participants have signed up for the inaugural Hulu Selangor Merdeka Kampung Run, to take place in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor on Sept 18.
The run, organised by Bina Kreasi PLT with the assistance of Hulu Selangor District Council and Tourism Selangor, will be flagged off at Econsave in Batang Kali and end at JRD Commercial Business Centre here.
Organising chairman Tek Eng Seng said participants would enjoy a scenic route as they pass through villages, durian farms, a coconut plantation, palm oil estate, rubber plantation, guava farm, orchid farm and vegetable farms.
He added that runners would also come across livestock such as cows, goats, chicken and ducks.
The route will also cover traditional Malay village houses in Kampung Padang and Kampung Kalong, and Chinese villages in Ulu Yam and Ulu Yam Baru.
“It will bring back nostaligic feelings as the elder participants will remember the old days living in a village.
“It is exciting for us organising this run for the first time and we hope that villagers will come out and cheer the participants on.
“We expect about 1,000 athletes to take part in the run,’’ Tek said at the launch of the event in Kuala Kubu Baru.
Participants can compete in the fun run that comprise two categories – adults and family run – with a distance of 5km. The entry fee is RM50 an athlete.
More competitive runners can take part in the 14.5km event in four competitive categories – men’s Open, men’s Veteran, women’s Open and women’s Veteran.
