It WAS an exciting and entertaining outing for teams in the Samba Bola Under-12 Unity Football carnival at the Rotunda Malacca Club in Tanjong Kling, Malacca.

A total of 32 teams, some that came from as far as Kuantan, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, battled for the Datuk Soh Chin Aun challenge trophy. Due to logistic problems, the organisers had to disappoint about 10 teams.

The carnival was organised by SportsUnite Sports Club, Malacca Club and Lagenda Football Club with support from Milo, Figos, Revive Isotonic drinks, National Sports Council and AirGoal.

Chin Aun, a former international and patron of Lagenda Football Club, was present to interact with the players as well as parents. After the finals, he gave away the prizes to the winning teams.

After the preliminary rounds, the semi-finalists were Lanchang United, Elite Juniors, Tunas Lagenda and NS Juniors.

In the semi-finals, Lanchang United from Pahang, edged Elite Juniors from Negri Sembilan 1-0 while Tunas Lagenda overcame NS Junior by a solitary goal.

The final between Lanchang United and Tunas Lagenda was an exciting affair with both teams playing well. But there were no goals and the winner was decided on penalties.

Lanchang United took their chances and notched a 2-0 win over Tunas Lagenda during the shootout.

Chin Aun said he was pleased with SportsUnite’s initiative to organise the carnival.

“I share the vision of SportsUnite that sports is one of the best ways to promote unity in our country. To me, it is important to create as many competitive opportunities as possible for our young to display their talent and skills.

“The confidence and experience gained from these competitions will make them better thinking players in the future. I am thankful to SportsUnite for giving me the honour to present the prizes to the winners. It’s a walk down memory lane for me as Alor Gajah is my home town and I still live here,’’ said Chin Aun.
