IT WILL be a pre-honeymoon trip for Sukhwinder Singh Gill and his fiancee Fiona Ng when they visit Paris, France, for a football match in July.
Sukhwinder, 38, who is a technical engineer, beat 86 other football fans in the Tiger FC’s Big Away Game contest in Petaling Jaya to win the grand prize of a trip for two to Paris during the Tiger FC’s hunt for “The Ultimate Fan” this 2015/16 season.
The viewing party coincided with newly crowned English Premier League champions Leicester’s game against Manchester United at Old Trafford last week where hundreds of Tiger FC fans gathered to catch the match.
He is a storehouse of football trivia as he has been a fan of the game since the 1970s and hones his knowledge by joining many contests.

“This is the biggest prize I have won so far. Best of all, I will be enjoying the match and trip with my wife-to-be. It will double as a romantic getaway,” said the Manchester United fan.
Besides the grand prize, five participants – Chan Wee Lee, Lim Yee Pee, Leong Carmen, Choo Kok Foong and Abhijay Jayaraj Menon -- each won a Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) in the StarMetro – Tiger FC Ultimate Fan Contest which ran every fortnight for six weeks since the end of January. The contest required readers to answer a simple question correctly based on an iconic moment in football.
Choo, from Petaling Jaya, was one of the final eight in the running for the grand prize. However, he is still excited over winning a PS4 as he loves playing computer games.
“I cannot wait to hook this game console up to my television,” he enthused.
During the face off, the contestants went through three rounds of tests in the form of multiple choice and subjective questions, before the final four and winners were identified for the knockout session at half-time of the 9pm match.

Friends of the finalists and Tiger FC fans joined in the excitement by cheering the participants on besides taking part in various fun activities lined up for those who purchased Tiger Beer buckets.
Each bucket came with two game tokens for fans to have a go at the Football Kick Simulator or to challenge the machine in a PS4 FIFA game to win either a camera or a Sony PS4 respectively.
Aspiring photographers were not forgotten. Upon capturing the spirit of the event, participants uploaded them on Tiger Beer’s Instagram page, hashtag Ultimate Fan, and the best picture won a camera.
Tiger Beer senior brand manager Joyce Lim said since September, the were 80 mini Tiger FC away matches held in the Klang Valley and Penang, where the winners came to this event to battle it out.
“It was estimated that more than 4,000 fans joined the contest since it started.
“We have a sturdy legion of fans with a strong passion for football and as Tiger FC moves into its 13th year, we hope to see this group expand and fans’ appetite grow annually.
“We are glad to have provided an avenue to reward real fans who are equipped with football knowledge,” she said.
Since September last year, Tiger FC began its search for the Ultimate Fan with in-depth knowledge on football and an unwavering passion for the sport at selected Tiger FC clubhouses throughout this 2015/16 football season.
A total of 80 PS4 consoles were given away to champions of the football quizzes held. Consolation-prize winners received Under Armour T-shirts.
Those who won the PS4 were automatically placed in the running for “The Ultimate Fan” battle.
