FORMER champions Emkay-NPNG are back in the limelight in the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) league.

Emkay-NPNG, without any silverware for the past two seasons, are certain to earn a place in the quarter-finals of the Super Division in the FAS league.

Emkay-NPNG showed their might when they defeated newcomers Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) 5-0 in a Group B match at the Panasonic Sports Complex in Shah Alam.

Emkay-NPNG were impressive in the game and took the lead in the 13th minute when B. Prabaharan scored past MPKj goalkeeper Aiman Hazwan Musarudin.

Aiman was beaten again two minutes later. This time it was veteran Azralan Azmi who scored to make it 2-0 for Emkay-NPNG.

Emkay-NPNG continued to dominate the game and also trouble the MPKj defence but were unable to score more goals.

The second half resumed with Emkay-NPNG looking for the third goal, and it came when Mohd Shamer Alkif Jamaludin scored in the 50th minute. In the 63rd minute, substitute Mohd Shuhaimi Shuib scored Emkay-NPNG’s fourth goal. Five minutes from time, captain Mohd Raffi Mansor scored the fifth goal for a convincing win.

It was Emkay-NPNG’s fifth win in six matches. With 15 points, they moved to the top spot in the nine-team Group B.

Emkay-NPNG coach Michael Palani was happy with the players’ determined performance.

“We have two more matches. We have to meet PKNS and Smart Focus. We will look ahead to the matches with confidence.

“The players, especially the strikers, are combining well with each other. We hope to see them getting more goals in our coming matches,’’ said Michael.

For MPKj, it was their second defeat in seven matches. They will have to win their last group match and hope for the top teams to falter to get a spot in the quarter-finals.

In another Group B match, Sultan Sulaiman Club (KSS) notched a 1-0 win over Belia Selangor B to move to the fourth spot with 11 points.

In Group A, the battle for the top four spots is getting intense with fancied Team Force and Belia Selangor A losing their respective matches.

Team Force, who have qualified for the FA Cup final, went down 1-0 to TLDM at the Kajang Stadium while Belia Selangor A’s unbeaten record came to an end when they were beaten 1-0 by PNSB.

Seven teams – Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Belia Selangor A, Kuala Langat District Football Association, Team Force, Airasia, TLDM and PNSB – are involved in a battle to finish among the top four teams in Group A.

MBSA, with one match remaining, are leading the 10-team Group A with 16 points from five wins,a draw and two losses. Kuala Langat District Football Association, after their 3-0 win over H-SJFC, moved to the second spot on 16 points.

Belia Selangor A are third on 13 points followed by Team Force (12 points), TLDM (12 points), PNSB (10 points) and Airasia (nine points).

In the Premier Division, Selangor Chinese Recreation Club (SCRC) continued their winning ways when they edged Victoria 4-3 in a Group A match. Table toppers LH-Tanjong Karang and second placed Jeonsa settled for a scoreless draw.

In Division One, Belia-Malaysian Indian Sports Council –Malaysian Indian Football Association (MISC-MIFA) had mixed fortunes in Group D. In a mid-week match, Belia-MISC-MIFA went down 1-0 to Iman-PJH.

However, they recovered from the setback and defeated G-Belarau 2-0 to stay in the race for a quarter-final berth. Following the win, Belia MISC-MIFA have 24 points from 10 outings. B2FC, who have played one match less, are leading the table with 25 points.
