WHETHER you are young or old, there is nothing like playing in the rain on a good day.

Some may be able to get away with it while the unlucky ones will have to have to bear the brunt of it.

“As we are older now, we tend to miss those moments playing in the the rain,” said Songkrun founder Gary Read during the launch of the fun run and water festival in Kuala Lumpur.

Read said the run had nothing to do with the popular Thai festival but the event was aimed at encouraging Malaysians to take part in a fun and healthy event with their families.

His partner for the inaugural run, Andrew Lee, explained that the one-day event was billed to be fun and not competitive, so participants are encouraged to take their time through the 5km route around the Sepang International Circuit.

The run features five water and music zones, bringing a different genre of music at every kilometre as well as a creative way to be drenched in water.

For instance, the first and last kilometre will see its main sponsor Biotherm occupying the spaces.

The skincare brand will be providing water showers and pop music to kick off the run at the first pit stop. At the last stop they will take runners through an icy experience paired with the sounds of dance music.

“There will be an unlimited supply of water around the run site for the runners to fill up their water guns,” said Lee.

He added that rainmakers and water trucks would also be part of the fun.

At the end of the run, participants will be greeted by the Songkrun Music Festival where a host of musicians such as DJ Nikki, Xu, Twinkies and Dennis Lau are set to entertain the crowd from noon to 4pm.

“There are a lot of surprises in store and we will be giving away special vouchers and freebies throughout the day,” said Lee.

The organisers have also included medals as part of their race kit as a token of appreciation to participants.

Read said the medals were designed with a fun concept in mind and he was certain it would be a collectable item among avid runners.

The run is scheduled for April 3, from 9am to 4pm with food trucks and hydration zones to keep runners fuelled up throughout the day.

Registration fees are priced at RM105 for the standard pack which comes with an event T-shirt, wristband, medal and a waterproof bag, while those needing a water gun can opt for the Shooter Pack priced at RM135.
