MAFC and Selangor Indian Football Association (SIFA) created big upsets in the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) FA Cup competition.

MAFC, playing in the second season in the FAS league, edged defending champions Sultan Sulaiman Club (KSS) on 5-4 penalties in a third round match at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi ground.

The match went into extra-time after both teams were tied at 1-1 after regular time. There was no goal in extra-time and the winner was decided on penalties. MAFC converted five but KSS only managed four.

Premier division side, SIFA, comprising a group of youngsters from West Country and Uniten, scored a narrow 1-0 win over Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) in a second round match at the Kajang Stadium.

MPKj, a Super division outfit, were expected to have the upper-hand against SIFA. However their plans took a knock when they were reduced to 10 men in the seventh minute.

Mohd Nuruddin Othman, who had collected a yellow card in the fifth minute, was given the marching orders two minutes later for a second bookable offence.

MPKj, with a man less in the early stage of the game, were unable to handle SIFA’s raids. However, SIFA had to wait until the 33rd minute for the winning goal by Rafiuddin Ramly.

SIFA team manager M. Nanthakumar admitted they had the edge with an extra man.

“MPKj lost a player during the early part of the game. It was quite difficult for them to play their normal game. It was a situation which favoured us and we managed to score one goal.

“It was enough to take us to the third round. We are looking ahead to the next round with confidence,’’ said Nanthakumar.

In another second round match at the PKNS ground in Kelana Jaya, former champions PKNS went on a scoring spree when they hammered Batu Caves 6-0.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) regained their winning ways in the Super Division. MBSA, who lost to Team Force 1-0 last week, edged TLDM 1-0 in a Group A match.

Team Force making their debut in the Super Division, recorded their third win in Group A when they thrashed PNSB 6-2.
