Council backing for 12-Hour Walk

THE Race Walkers Association of Malaysia (RWAM) have joined forces with the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) to organise this year’s MKH-Kajang International 12-Hour Walk.

The event, organised by RWAM, with developer MKH as the title sponsor, will be held in Kajang on Dec 12 and13. In the past, the RWAM organised the event in Malacca, Kuala Lumpur and Seremban.

The RWAM have received encouraging support from the Kajang District Police as well as the Kajang Hospital.

RWAM president Tan Sri Eddy Chen said they were pleased to work with MPKj as well as the other relevant authorities.

“Their involvement is very important to the success of the event. We are grateful to all the partners for coming forward to be part of the MKH-Kajang International 12-Hour Walk,’’ said Eddy.

The MKH-Kajang International 12-Hour Walk is unique and attracts participants from all over the world.

This year, the RWAM is expecting about 1,000 participants to register for the event.

Just like in the past years, participants are expected from Australia, France, Hong Kong, the Philippines, England and Singapore.

Organising chairman Khoo Chong Beng, a former international and IAAF-certified judge, said they had received a lot of enquiries.

“The online registration process has started and response is encouraging. Some of the regulars, particularly foreigners, have already registered. We expect the local participants to come in full force,’’ said Chong Beng.

There are two categories – men’s Open and women’s Open – and the winners will be decided on the total distance completed by each participant will determine the winners. Besides the championships also 50km event for both men and women as well as a mixed team event.

The RWAM, as part of their development programme, will also have 1km event for primary school children.

Chong Beng said 1km event was only limited to 100 participants.

“The 1km was included as the participants will get the chance to witness the seasoned senior walkers. It will inspire them,’’ added Chong Beng.
