IT took Belia 4-B Sungai Glugor eight long years to realise their promotion dream and they did it in style.
They booked their ticket to Division Two even before the Division Three final showdown which saw them ending their days in Division Three by emerging champions.
Ther opponents in the final at the City Stadium recently, promotion mate Municipal Council (MPPP) FC, were handed a 1-4 bashing.
Two weeks earlier in the semi-final, Belia 4-B Sungai Glugor went against the odds to topple an on-song Timuran SC by a solitary goal.
In the final, Belia 4-B Sungai Glugor took only 14 minutes to size up the MPPP defence.
Ace striker Mohamad Azrul Alias struck with venom to give his side a dream lead and it was just the encouragement his team needed.
However, they failed to improve on the scoreline despite carving out several opportunities.
MPPP fought their way back with Syaiful Syazli Che Sabri firing home the equaliser in the 50th minute.
However, their joy at erasing Belia 4-B Sungai Glugor’s slender lead turned out to be shortlived.
Belia 4-B Sungai Glugor regained their lead just six minutes later through Ahmad Saiful Mansar who easily tucked home a cross from the right in the 56th minute.
In the 76th minute, Sungai Glugor’s Muhamad Nazirul Abdul Hadi delivered the third blow and Ahmad Saiful fired home the fourth goal in the 83rd minute.
The match was then beyond MPPP’s grasp.
Belia 4-B Sungai Glugor’s chairman Muhamad Khairul Mohd Ali said their success was due to patience over the years.
“Eight years is indeed a long time to pursue a dream.
“My players had a strong desire to excel, otherwise, they would have given up long ago,” said Muhamad Khairul, who is also Belia 4-B Sungai Glugor team manager.
Khairul said the team would strive to show local football enthusiasts that their promotion to the second tier was no flash in the pan.
