Footie fans run to aid orphanage

OFFICIAL Arsenal FC Supporters Fan Club in Malaysia members took part in the annual “Be a Gunner. Be a Runner” event at Taman Tasik Shah Alam recently to raise funds for a good cause.

It was part of a global event, with fan clubs from around the world organising a run in aid of a charity in their respective countries.

Club president Azman Shah said the event was held on April 11 at the Emirates Stadium and other fan clubs could organise their own runs around the date.

“This is the third time it is organised in Malaysia. While we donated to the Arsenal Foundation in the UK during the inaugural event in 2013, we chose a local orphanage as the beneficiary last year and another one this year.

Family outing: The event attracted participants of all ages.

“We obtained the race bib numbers from the UK and printed the bibs in accordance to the official design,” he said.

“It is free to join but participants donated after the run,” said club exco member K. Anand.

“Around 50 members turned up, some came with family members. There is no age limit. They ran two laps around the park,” he said.

“Last year, 10 of us went to Kelantan to donate provisions to the flood victims there.”
