Kota Raja stay unbeaten

Staying motivated: Kota Raja FC’s M. Nishindran (centre) played a huge role in their win over Zabag.

KOTA RAJA Football Club recorded their fourth win of the season and maintained their unbeaten record in Division One of the Football Association of Selangor League.

Making their debut in the FAS League, Kota Raja chalked up a convincing 6-0 win over SL-Zabag in a Group B match in Meru, Kapar.

Hard-working strikers Azrey Ahmad and K. Yakish Rao scored a brace each, while Mohamad Naim Mohamad Zainal and T. Subhramani were also on target.

Kota Raja coach G. Muthu praised his players for their gallant performance and added: “We are committed to qualifying for the quarter-finals.

“Looking at our progress in the league, as well as FA Cup, we are on the right track.

“We still have a long way to go and we have to keep the players motivated.

“The management has also been very supportive of our mission,’’ he said.

Kota Raja, the Selangor FA Cup runners-up, are fourth in the 13-team table with a maximum 12 points from four matches.

Jeonsa FC, who edged Damansara 3-2, led the log with 18 points from six wins. They also lost one.

Bukit Rotan Baru, after their hard-fought 3-2 win against Rovers, are second on the table with 16 points, while SL-Zabag are third with 13 points.

Muthu, who played for Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan in the M-League in his heyday, said the battle for the top-two spots in Group B was “intense”.

“We have played fewer matches because of our involvement in the FA Cup and we have another eight matches to go.

“We have to collect the points to be in contention for a quarter-final berth,’’ he said.

In Group A, Tanjong Karang-LS and Bukit Kapar FC were also in good form. Tanjong Karang-LS defeated SS Putra 5-0, while Bukit Kapar outclassed Sinaran Bersatu 3-0.

Both Tanjong Karan-LS and Bukit Kapar remain unbeaten.

Tanjong Karan-LS lead the 14-team table with 27 points from nine wins, while Bukit Kapar are second with 25 points from eight wins and a draw.

In the Premier Division, Serenta-Meru completed their fixtures after defeating DB-Putrajaya United 2-0. It is now a waiting game for Serenta-Meru, to see where they finish with their 14 points, as the other contenders – Hallo2 Melevar and UiTM - have a game in hand.

Hallo2 Melevar scored a big 6-1 victory over Darul Ehsan, and will have to win their last match to be certain of a place in the last eight.

Team Force, with one match remaining, have qualified for the quarter-finals with 16 points.
