A NEW trail run has been launched to introduce trail runners from across the region to the scenic beauty of Bario in the Kelabit Highlands in the heart of Sarawak.

Runners Wild Bario is organised by sports marketing veteran Kuhan Foo’s Specialised Sports Services and the community of Bario, to introduce the untouched lands nestled in the cool highlands of Sarawak.

The race will be held on May 16 where intrepid trail run enthusiasts will flag off from Bario and cover a course set over 50km that will take them past pristine forests, tropical mountains, large patches of rice fields and past idyllic villages nestled in the heart of Borneo.

Participation is limited to 50 runners because of the remoteness of the race.

The Runners Wild trail run in Bario will seek to promote tourism for Bario and surrounding villages such as Pa Lungan, Pa Dalih And Pa Umor. Runners Wild will work with the locals to market their tourism attractions to the adventurous minded or for those simply seeking peace and tranquility.

Runners Wild will also assist the local community in repairing broken infrastructure such as broken bridges across swamps which are used by the local school children and tourists.

Another part of it’s community return program will see Runners Wild create and maintain a website to promote tourism in the communities and also providing training for locals from the communities to be able to contribute to the online platform to create a sustainable marketing medium for tourism in the Kelabit Highlands.
