PNSB moved to the top of the table when they edged Malaysia Airlines 1-0 in a Super Division Group A match of the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) league.
The only goal of the match, played at the Mini Stadium in Shah Alam, came in the 28th minute when Elias Abdullah scored. With the win, PNSB also maintained their winning streak in the Super Division, gaining 12 points from four wins.
For Malaysia Airlines, it was their third defeat in five matches. They have four points from a win and a draw.
Malaysia Airlines team manager Kamarulazman Aziz said luck was not on their side.
“The players gave a good display. Unfortunately, it was not enough to get the better of PNSB. We have to look ahead with optimism and win our remaining three matches,’’ said Kamarulazman.
In another Group A match, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) notched their first win in the league when they edged Nilam Puri-Dengkil 1-0.
In Group B, there was a big upset as Anak Kalumpang-Teleflow beat former champions Emkay-NPNG 2-1 at the UKM Sports Complex in Bangi. The defeat was Emkay-NPNG’s first in five matches. Despite the loss, Emkay-NPNG, coached by former international Michael Palani, are still in the top spot with 10 points in the seven team group. Anak Kalumpang-Teleflow also have 10 points but are second on goal difference.
Michael said it was not their day as they dominated the match.
“Our strikers failed to score from the numerous chances that came their way. We have to win our next match to gain confidence as well as qualify for the quarter-finals. We want to maintain our top spot in Group B,’’ said Michael.
Belia Selangor B, represented by juniors from the FAS academy. thrashed Sri Remaja 6-1 to move to the third spot with nine points from three wins and a defeat. In another Group B, Sultan Sulaiman Club, who have qualified for the FA Cup final, edged bottom placed Selangor Indian Association 1-0.
Meanwhile the FAS competition committee, headed by Datuk Emran Kadir, found PNSB guilty of upsporting behaviour during the FA Cup semi-final match against Kota Raja FC.
After a two-hour meeting, the committee found PNSB guilty of misconduct and announced Kota Raja FC as the winner of the semi-final match.
PNSB, a seasoned team in the FAS league, unhappy with the referee’s decision and opted not to continue the match against Kota Raja FC.
The score was then 2-1 favouring Kota Raja FC.
The FA Cup final between Kota Raja FC and SSC, who edged MAFC 1-0 in the semi-finals, will be played at the SUK ground in Shah Alam on March 11. The champions will receive RM10,000 and the runners-up RM5,000.
