SENHENG’S retail outlet cum headquarters in Pandan Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, was abuzz with excitement when Petaling Badminton Club (Petaling BC) players Jan O Jorgensen along with Shia Chun Kang and Lew Ming Hui dropped in for a visit.
The trio who are in the Kopiko Purple League, were greeted by loud cheers as they arrived at the club sponsor’s outlet, but Jorgensen, who is ranked as the world number two player was at the centre of attraction.
Sengheng managing director Lim Kim Heng along with a large number of badminton fans at the company’s headquarters took time off from their duties to have a meet and greet session with the players.
They were also joined by members of the public who were waiting for the opportunity to meet one of the world’s top badminton player alongside others who did not know who exactly he was, but took the opportunity to ride along with the excitement.
Jorgensen admitted that he was not accustomed to such a reception from fans back in Denmark, but he was not phased by the legion of fans and was more than capable of handling a whole store-full of excited fans.
The 27-year old shuttler said it was thanks to players like Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan many people here know the game and there is huge level of interest in Asia generally, which gets them intrigued (when there is anything badminton involved).
Lim, who is a big badminton fan himself, said Senheng’s sponsorship with the club is part of the plan to unearth future badminton talents and shared that his dream is to see the Petaling BC make it to the top in the upcoming Purple League champions challenge from Feb 5-8 in Genting Highlands, Pahang.
