GEORGE TOWN: The counting of donations from the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Waterfall Hilltop Temple is proceeding smoothly, according to state publication Buletin Mutiara.
It said the counting session, held at Komtar on Friday (Feb 6), is being conducted in conjunction with the recently celebrated 240th Thaipusam festival on Feb 1.
“There are 39 volunteers involved in the process, comprising personnel from state and federal departments in Penang, as well as members of the public.
“Following this year’s Thaipusam celebrations at the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Waterfall Hilltop Temple, donations from devotees to the temple and the Golden Chariot have poured in.
“This year, contributions were collected through 21 donation boxes and 10 containers during the temple and Golden Chariot processions,” it said.
It added that all 39 volunteers had stepped forward to assist in counting the donations.
“Funds collected from the Golden Chariot will be used to support students’ education, while donations received by the temple will be channelled towards temple development.
“The counting exercise is being conducted under tight security and is monitored by commissioners from the Penang Hindu Endowments Board.
“The total amount collected is expected to be announced at about 4pm on Friday (Feb 6),” it said.
