Laptop programme among state’s efforts to help bridge digital divide

EDUCATION remains a top priority in the development agenda of Sarawak government.

State Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said various initiatives were being implemented to ensure every child had access to fair, inclusive and quality education regardless of their socio-economic background.

He was speaking at the Sarawak Foundation International Secondary School (YSISS) Sibu students’ excellence award presentation ceremony held at the school hall.

He highlighted the important role played by the foundation as a strategic partner of the state government in supporting student learning, particularly at YSISS Sibu.

“One of the efforts that we are very proud of is the implementation of the foundation’s Laptop Assistance Programme,” he said.

His speech was read by Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, the political secretary to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

Dr Annuar said 53 out of 94 YSISS Sibu students received laptops under the programme, comprising students from the B40 group with several from the M40 group.

“This assistance is a long-term investment by the government to ensure that students are not left behind in today’s era of digital learning and technology.”

Dr Annuar said access to learning devices such as laptops was now a necessity in an increasingly technology- dependent education landscape.

“This programme is expected to help students learn more effectively, improve their digital skills and strengthen their preparation for the challenges of higher education and the future workforce.”

Dr Annuar said the student awards recognised academic achievements in addition to students’ effort, discipline, character and perseverance throughout their learning journey.

“The success celebrated today is the result of close cooperation between students, the dedication of teachers who never tire of educating and guiding and the strong support of parents and the school,” he said.

He expressed his appreciation to all educators at YSISS Sibu for their commitment, patience and professionalism in nurturing students.

“To the students who received awards today, congratulations,” Dr Annuar said.

“However, to those who have yet to receive any awards, do not feel disappointed or give up,” he said.

Dr Annuar added that success should not be measured solely by awards but by continuous effort, resilience and determination to improve oneself.
