Cosy nightspot in the city

Nestled in the basement of Wisma Central, Kuala Lumpur, LandOn bar offers a sharp contrast to the 40-year-old commercial building that houses it.

It provides a contemporary, playful Malaysian twist on London aesthetics, blending a “Kingsman-style” underground entrance with approachable English charm.

The interior reimagines a London Underground station with a vibrant night energy, creating a cosy, intimate atmosphere for patrons seeking an escape from the bustling city.

Furnished with classic Chesterfield sofas, tables crafted from local timber, and bar shelving made from repurposed durian wood, the space is rich in character.

Behind the bar, head mixologist Buyung channels 16 years of expertise into five signature cocktails.

Whispering Jade is a refreshing choice – a blend of gin, calamansi and pandan syrup that offers a tropical fragrance with bright citrus notes.

In contrast, the Jack in the Tropics is a more spirit-forward libation, featuring jackfruit-infused Bacardi, Malibu, lime and pandan syrup.

Crowned with a spirit-steeped jackfruit slice, the drink delivers a potent punch and a dense, aromatic scent of ripe fruit that leaves a trail of sweet nostalgia.

Another standout is the Madagasia, a sophisticated gin-and-tonic variation.

It combines Gin Mare, lime and soda with a bespoke Madagascar spice syrup.

The inclusion of Madagascar peppercorns lends the drink a complex depth.

“We managed to source the peppercorns through a friend of the owner, and they add something truly special to the profile,” Buyung said.

In a testament to the bar’s personalised hospitality, the mixologist can tailor off-menu creations, such as a bourbon-based cocktail designed for those with a penchant for whiskey-forward profiles.

One such surprise is the Devil’s Delight, a striking black cocktail made with activated charcoal, lime, spicy syrup, and egg white, topped with a fiery red bird’s eye chilli.

The sweet, earthy notes of the bourbon complement the mild heat of the chilli, while the citrus acidity provides a balanced finish.

Notable signatures include the Magenta Blitz, a vibrant mix of blueberry-infused gin, raspberry liqueur, lime, strawberry syrup and egg white, and the Velvet Dawn, which blends Aperol, gin and passionfruit.
