The retention wall along Jalan Silang, which is causing concern among Kepong residents due to cracks and water seepage.
VISIBLE cracks and water seepage on a retention wall at an industrial area in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, have raised concerns of nearby residents.
Community activist Yee Poh Ping said the retention wall along Jalan Silang was constructed about 25 years ago during the development of Sri Edaran Industrial Park.
He said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) approved an upgrade of Jalan Silang two years ago to connect Jalan Metro Perdana Barat and Jalan Perdana 4.
According to the project notice board, construction began on Nov 1, 2024, and is scheduled for completion on March 19, 2026.
Yee however said he doubted that the project would be completed on schedule.
“More importantly, I am concerned about the stability of the retention wall.
“The visible cracks and water seepage have led to the growth of plants along the structure.”
Yee said he had written to DBKL, urging it to check the wall’s structural integrity.
“I am worried about whether the wall can withstand the impact of the road upgrade given its current condition.”
He also said that there was stagnant water at the base of the retention wall whenever it rained.
DBKL had yet to respond to queries at press time. — By VIJENTHI NAIR
