Hasrolnizam: If the location is suitable and the activity is allowed, we can approve the licence in less than 14 days.
PROSPECTIVE business operators and traders in Ampang Jaya, Selangor, can expect faster approval for licence and permit applications starting next year.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) said processing times could be reduced from 30 days to 14, provided all documents were in order.
MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said the council has begun aligning its workflow with the state government’s directive to expedite low-risk licences and business permits.
“We have already started this at MPAJ.
“Good public service delivery is essential for our residents and stakeholders,” he said after chairing the council’s full board meeting at Menara MPAJ.
Hasrolnizam said MPAJ aimed to create a more secure and enabling business environment for small traders, noting that the shorter approval timeline benefitted both premises-based traders and roadside hawkers.
He said MPAJ currently provided trading locations for between 3,000 and 5,000 traders, and that formalising business activities through proper licensing remained a key priority.
“If the location is suitable and the activity is allowed, we can approve the licence in less than 14 days.
“Applications in unsuitable or sensitive locations are not automatically rejected, but we will review them carefully,” said Hasrolnizam.
For larger commercial and industrial matters under the state’s Speed Selangor initiative, he said MPAJ would follow streamlined processes set by the state.
During the Selangor Budget 2026 announcement last week, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said low-risk permits and licences across all 12 local councils would be standardised, and processing times shortened, starting June next year, with hawker licence processing period reduced from 30 days to 14 working days.
On another matter, Hasrolnizam said since Oct 14, action has been taken against business licence holders who employed foreign workers without valid permits.
As of Oct 31, four compounds were issued and 67 items seized from business premises found hiring undocumented foreign workers, in breach of their licence conditions.
Action was taken under MPAJ Trade, Business and Industry By-Laws 2007.
Hotspot areas, he said, included Taman Pandan Mewah and Taman Kosas.
