Selangor government is allocating between RM300,000 and RM500,000 for various domestic and international medical tourism development initiatives, as it sets its sights on becoming a regional medical tourism hub.
“The budget, spanning one year, will go towards promoting health tourism events, producing health tourism videos, familiarisation trips and advertising,” said state local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim.
“Selangor is a top medical tourism destination in Malaysia that attracts a large number of international patients, as our state offers affordable world-class treatment that is comparable to developed countries,” he said during the Selangor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.
The state through Tourism Selangor supported the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism (MYMT) 2026 initiative, he said, with the goal of making Selangor a regional health tourism hub offering quality medical treatments and international-standard recovery tourism experiences.
He was replying to Dr Quah Perng Fei (PH-Bandar Baru Klang) who asked about strategies and allocations to promote medical tourism in Selangor next year.
“Our main policies include building a sustainable medical and recovery tourism sector by linking healthcare and tourism,” said Ng.
“We will also foster public- private partnerships between Tourism Selangor, Malaysia Healthcare Tourism Council (MHTC) and healthcare facilities, including both private and public hospitals, to create integrated health tourism packages.”
He said there was a strategic plan for Selangor’s health tourism targeted at key markets such as Indonesia, Singapore and the Middle East through exhibitions and joint campaigns with MHTC.
“We are looking at developing integrated treatment packages that include diagnosis, treatment, accommodation and recovery activities.
“By the end of this year, Tourism Selangor will coordinate promotional programmes with MHTC, register eligible healthcare facilities and launch a series of awareness campaigns ahead of MYMT 2026,” Ng added.
