CAR wash operations in Selayang, Selangor, will come under greater scrutiny now.

Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) deputy president Az’har Samsuri said it had received many licensing applications for car wash services.

“However, several were turned down due to failure in fulfilling certain requirements such as obtaining a building permit and identifying a suitable site for operation.

“A revised guideline is needed to ensure such operations do not disrupt communities and the local environment.”

After the council’s full board meeting, Az’har said there were more than 100 licensed car wash operators in Selayang.

He said MPS had recently stepped up enforcement after checks found 64 unlicensed operators.

According to guidelines obtained from the council’s website, car wash operators were given a three-month trial period.

In addition to ensuring proper disposal of wastewater, operators were prohibited from erecting temporary structures such as tents and metal containers without approval and were barred from playing music at their premises.

Any complaints from the public within the first three months would result in the licence being revoked.

Az’har said those operating illegally also risked having their assets seized and their structures demolished.
