THOSE with outstanding compounds for licensing and cleanliness-related offences in Selayang, Selangor, are eligible for discounts on payments made from now until Dec 31.
This is the second time this year that Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) made such an offer, following a similar exercise in April and May.
Its deputy president Az’har Samsuri said the discounts varied according to types of offences.
“This initiative is in response to the majority of requests we received for compound reduction from ratepayers.
“The discounts are for compounds issued under local council by-laws and Acts,” he told StarMetro after the MPS full board meeting.
Az’har warned that failure to settle outstanding compounds would result in offenders being blacklisted for future applications and services.
“For example, they may not be able to get their business licences renewed,” he said.
He added that MPS might initiate court action in special cases.
Az’har advised those facing difficulty in settling their compounds, to attend the council’s “Hari Bertemu Pelanggan” – held on the first Friday of the month at MPS headquarters – to discuss payment arrangements.
When asked about the total amount owed in licensing and cleanliness compounds, Az’har stressed that this was not a revenue source for MPS.
“Our objective in issuing compounds is to educate the public about civic responsibility and compliance with regulations.”
Separately, Az’har said MPS had collected RM66.6mil, or 99.4%, of assessment tax owed for the first quarter of 2025.
For the second quarter, MPS received RM51.6mil (77%) of the total due, while RM6.84mil (72%) in assessment arrears was also recovered.
Notices with a RM20 charge were issued to nearly 76,000 accounts with outstanding assessments.
A further notice with a RM100 charge was also sent to property owners who failed to pay by Sept 30, said Az’har.
