‘With motorcycle licence comes responsibility’

A TOTAL of 1,114 motorists from Nangka constituency in Sibu, Sarawak, can now travel with ease after obtaining their Class B2 motorcycle licences under the MyLesen B2 initiative.

“This programme not only provides young people in particular with the opportunity to obtain a licence legally and safely, but also helps to cultivate disciplined and responsible riders,” said Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Dr Annuar, who is also Sarawak Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister, said this in his speech read out by Sayed Azmi Wan Junaidi, political secretary to the premier, during the presentation of the licences at University of Technology Sarawak in Sibu.

Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) deputy director Nor Azlan Ibrahim cautioned participants against misusing their licences by behaving recklessly.

“Obtaining a driving licence does not mean you are free to ride as you wish.

“It is not a ticket to become the king of the road, nor green light to race illegally or to ride a motorcycle that has been modified unlawfully or without a valid road tax,” he said.

Nor Azlan added that based on Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) data, about 6,000 fatalities occurred annually in road accidents nationwide – equivalent to between 19 and 20 deaths each day.
