NOTHING unites Malaysians and inspires patriotic zeal like our national athletes in the arena battling for victory.

Driven by that spirit, budget household products retailer Eco-Shop is sponsoring a trip to the SEA Games Thailand 2025 for 45 people.

It is collaborating with Famemas Malaysia Sports Supporters Club which will head up the cheering squad at the event.

The sponsorship is also open to Eco-Shop’s customers.

Eco-Shop chief executive officer and executive director Jessica Ng said a chance meeting with Famemas president Lee Hui Seng during a recent trip to Bangkok had sparked the idea.

“Eco-Shop is known for affordable household products, but we wanted to be part of something bigger and meaningful,” said Ng of the decision to team up.

Also present at the Letter of Intent signing ceremony between Eco-Shop and Famemas in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, was Eco-Shop general manager Stella Soon.

The club has attended various international sporting events over the last three decades, Lee said.

He said Famemas members were devoted to cheering on our athletes and highlighting their achievements.

“As someone who has cheered for our athletes from the stands for years, I can tell you that they truly feel the difference when Malaysians show up for them.”

Praising the initiative, former National Sports Institute chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz said supporters were needed at sporting events.

“Their words and the chanting give the athletes that extra push and encouragement to do their best,” said Dr Ramlan.

Former athletes and gold medalists from various tournaments such as Datuk Foo Kok Keong, Noraseela Khalid, Chai Fong Ying and R. Puvaneswaran were also at the ceremony to share their experiences from being in the arena.

To win the trip, customers must spend a minimum of RM35 in a single receipt, scan the QR code on the receipt and fill in their details before uploading the proof of purchase.

Entry is via QR code only. The contest ends Oct 26.
