Aid for Sibu fire victims

The start of October turned calamitous for two families living in Lorong Sentosa 6, Sibu in Sarawak, when a fire destroyed their homes and left 19 people homeless.

By evening, a small, dedicated team from Sibu Malaysian Red Crescent arrived with swift relief – not just in the form of aid, but also comfort.

Branch chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee with four committee members and staff dropped in with supplies including clothing and blankets.

The items, carefully sorted for women, men and children, were a simple yet vital gesture to help the families begin piecing their lives back together.

“Losing your home and your basic necessities is devastating, and we want them to know they are not alone,” said Chua.

“We hope this contribution can ease some of their burden.”

Chua said that responding quickly to disasters was central to the Red Crescent mission of helping communities in crisis.

Separately, donations were also made by the N51 Bukit Assek service centre.
