Dance troupes representing a wide range of nationalities took Sibu International Dance Festival (SIDF) 2025 to greater heights with vibrant performances.
The 30 troupes were from Sibu and Kuching in Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, besides China, Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Taiwan and the Philippines.
Audiences both local and from afar were captivated by the diversity of performances at the event organised by Hornland Dance Theatre.
Some dances told a story, such as La Salle Dance Company from the Philippines’ contemporary piece portraying a once-harmonious indigenous community pressured to sell ancestral land for modern housing projects.
The performance by Singapore Raffles Music College, meanwhile, explored individuality and identity.
Contemporary vibes also came from the Philippines’ Hugis Dance Project and Taiwan’s Feng Dance Company.
In the cultural sphere, SJK (C) Yu Hua from Selangor charmed the crowd with their performance, while China’s Mu Zhao Rolling Hoop Cultural and Arts Troupe presented its signature work meshing acrobatics and grace.
From Sri Lanka, API Dancing Crew showcased the country’s iconic dance which fuses drumming, intricate footwork and graceful strength.
