DIGITAL content creators are not just entertainers or information providers but “digital ambassadors” who play a vital role in driving Malaysia’s economic growth.

Sarawak Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang said creative content was a new growth engine of the digital economy, while also shaping a country’s image and cultural strength on the global stage.

“Every content creator is the country’s digital ambassador.

“You are not just delivering a message but also promoting innovation, technology and values that represent us to the outside world,” Tiang said when launching the National Multimedia and Content Creators Conference 2025 in Sibu.

He said technological advances such as artificial intelligence (AI), smart agriculture and automated transportation required effective content to reach both the public here and the international market.

“Great innovation will not be appreciated without engaging content,” he said.

“This is where content creators play a vital role in opening new investment opportunities,” he noted.

Tiang cited innovators such as Steve Jobs and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang changing perceptions of technology through powerful delivery and storytelling, as examples of how content drove progress.

In the Sarawak context, he said the state was advancing its green economy through hydrogen development, carbon capture, and sustainable technology – areas where content creators could help amplify Sarawak’s climate change efforts.

He thus called on content creators to become spokespersons for Sarawak’s green economy.

“We hope content creators can take this message to the world.

“You are the link between government policy and public understanding,” said Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman.

He expressed confidence that Sibu had the potential to become a creative content hub, supported by local talent, educational institutions and proactive state government policies.

“Most importantly, be a mainstream voice that spreads positive values, love for the community, and the spirit of progress.

“Your content is a reflection of the nation’s dignity,” he added.

The two-day conference gathered some 500 participants, among whom were content creators, media practitioners, academics and industry players from across the country to share knowledge, network and explore opportunities in the creative industry.

At the event, Sibu Digital Multimedia Practitioners Association led by president Tiong Hua Kiong signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kolej Laila Taib represented by chief executive officer Eric Wong, to strengthen cooperation in the creative industry.
