Foundation’s new campus in Sibu ready to welcome students

Sarawak Foundation International Secondary School (YSISS) Sibu is expected to commence full operations this month.

This follows the completion of all approval processes and final preparations at its newly completed campus in Jalan Teng Chin Hua.

Sarawak Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn confirmed during his visit to YSISS Sibu that the school’s construction had been completed.

He said all approvals from local authorities, including the municipal council and the Fire and Rescue Department, had been obtained.

“The school building is now completed and we have secured all the necessary permits.

“What remains is approval from the state Education Department. I believe this will not pose a problem, given our good working relationship with the department,” he told reporters after conducting an inspection at the school.

Although the new Sibu campus has just been completed, classes have been underway since March with students from the central zone temporarily accommodated at YSISS Kuching.

According to Sagah, once final approval is secured, students will be relocated to the Sibu campus.

YSISS Sibu is the third international school established by Sarawak Foundation, following campuses in Kuching and Bintulu.

The school is equipped with modern facilities, including science laboratories and classrooms designed to accommodate 25 students each.

It follows the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education curriculum, with the majority of subjects taught in English.

Bahasa Melayu and History are taught in Bahasa Malaysia, in line with national education requirements.

“All the students here come from the central zone of Sarawak, including those currently studying in Kuching.

“We hope more students from this zone will be able to benefit from the facilities provided by this school,” said Sagah.

During his visit, he witnessed the symbolic handover of a replica key from the YSISS Sibu project contractor to the Sarawak Foundation, marking the school’s completion.

Also present at the event was Sarawak Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
