KL bar redefines nightlife scene with daring flavours in intimate setting
New cocktails at G-String Kuala Lumpur, one of the city’s sexiest bars, have an exciting and imaginative blend of taste and presentation.
Crafted by mixologist Carson Cheong, they showcase a variety of liquor bases, designed to highlight the sophistication of each spirit while balancing citrusy, tropical ingredients.
As the name suggests, G-String cocktail bar strives to create an intimate setting for its visitors.
The letter ‘G’ in the name also represents gin, a lighter spirit option that appeals to female patrons and used in most of the cocktails here.
The interior is resplendent with its pinkish, neon lighting, floral sofas and lacy decorations complemented with a collection of vintage television sets, radios and lamps that flank the bar.
Cheong’s creations explore more than just the use of gin, featuring a wide range of spirits.
Too Hot to Handle features mezcal, tequila, langkau (distilled rice wine) with French anise liqueur, lemon juice and yuzu.
It comes with grenadine syrup at the bottom and topped off with a slice of dehydrated lime and is served in a glass with a rim garnished with chilli flakes.
“The hint of sweetness balances the spiciness of the drink,” said Cheong.
The spiciness kicks in from the first sip, but gradually harmonises with the other elements.
Dirty Pirate Hooker is served in a glass shaped like a shark head with bloody jaws to resemble a shark attack.
The rum and cognac-based drink pairs well with peach liqueur, pineapple and lemon juice, giving it a citrusy note. It is also topped with dehydrated pineapple and a cherry.
In Break the Virgin, the clear orangey libation is topped with a biscuit for guests to break and enjoy with the drink.
Featuring gin, lemon juice, peach and coconut liqueur, it is easy and refreshing – a perfect drink to start off the evening.
“It is also a unique twist on the classic Gimlet cocktail,” Cheong explained.
Creamy Panties, on the other hand, is more of a dessert-like beverage.
Made with vodka, butterscotch liqueur and apricot brandy liqueur as well as milk and strawberry, the creamy spiked drink is a treat for those with a sweet tooth.
Party-goers can also try Yamate Kudasai shots, made of sake, cucumber, sour plum, elderflower liqueur and lemon juice and served in trays of three or six.
When hunger strikes, try bar snacks such as The Yakitori Platter – chicken thighs and wings, salmon, prawn, leek, cherry tomatoes and shiitake mushrooms. Other options include grilled scallops, grilled Argentinian squid, lamb rack or tempura prawns.
