JB hunt for funds, mental health awareness

JOHOR Baru Befrienders is hoping to raise funds while spreading mental health awareness through a treasure hunt.

Its publicity director Andy Cheong said the non-governmental organisation (NGO) hoped to raise about RM40,000 through the event set for Aug 9 at a mall in Johor Baru.

“Every year, we organise different charity events to raise funds for our operations.

“Last year, we held a charity walk where we raised about RM24,000 and hope to increase the figure this year.”

He said the funds collected would be used to pay for utilities and maintenance of its centre.

“We need between RM2,000 and RM3,000 every month to run the centre.

“The funds would allow us to continue our operations, providing a listening ear to callers in need.”

The treasure hunt is also a way for the NGO to increase mental health awareness and promote its services.

“We will incorporate some questions related to mental health and Johor Baru Befrienders,” said Cheong.

“This will also help the public better understand the issues and what we do.”

He said the treasure hunt was for groups of four people, with cash prizes of up RM200 to RM500 for the top three places.
