Upgrades to toilet facilities at Setia Alam Central Park in Shah Alam, Selangor, are expected to be completed by Oct 27.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Zone 21 councillor Simon Siow said the project cost RM150,000 and works began on July 8.

“There were complaints about faulty lights as well as dim lighting, mostly due to the surrounding trees that block natural light.

“The roof will be redesigned to let in more natural light during the day,” he said.

Repairs and upgrades include to toilet bowls and urinals, installation of additional solar panels, and roof work.

Siow said that prior to the upgrade, some facilities were damaged by vandals.

“I hope this does not happen again,” he said.

He added that old plastic and wooden doors would be replaced with stainless steel ones.

The toilet will meet the “Bersih, Menawan, Wangi” standard and will be entered for the Toilet of the Year award by Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) next year.

MBSA Landscape Department assistant director Mohd Nazrol Mohd Fauzi said three toilets under MBSA’s jurisdiction were being upgraded to meet the standards.

“These include Setia Alam Central Park, MBSA Convention Centre in Section 13 and Taman Tasik Shah Alam in Section 14,” he said.
