ALMOST 90,000 small-scale businesses have benefitted from Platform Selangor (PLATS), created to help tide them over during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The digital directory and promotional platform was developed in 2020 to aid hawkers and small-scale retailers who could not conduct their business during the movement control order (MCO).

“Over 88,000 businesses have participated and benefitted from this platform.

“We hope by the end of this year, we will reach 100,000 users,” said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari during the Platform Selangor strategic partners’ appreciation ceremony at the Selangor state secretariat building in Shah Alam.

“PLATS was conceived to help entrepreneurs and micro-business owners who were unable to operate due to the MCO.

“Selangor became the first to offer Ramadan bazaar traders the opportunity to shift their business online through this digital platform.

“It has been around for five years and has enabled business opportunities beyond physical spaces, thus reaching a wider market. Several business owners have also achieved record sales.”

Amirudin said PLATS recorded RM2.3mil in sales with 71,294 business transactions between Oct 20, 2024, and July 7, 2025.

“On average, daily sales are about RM13,417.70 for each active business operator between October last year and July this year,” he elaborated.

He cited the success story of Dapur Kak Mala, a food and beverage business operator from Sabak Bernam that has been active on PLATS since December 2024.

The business, he said, had total accumulated sales of RM262,443, with average monthly sales of RM50,000.

“This is comparable to the amount of sales achieved at food kiosks in prominent malls.”

Amirudin said PLATS’ success was proof that with access to opportunities, small village traders were able to reap sales like city business players.

He attributed the success of PLATS to Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) Selangor and Yayasan MBI.

State youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said six new strategic partners were now part of PLATS to further enhance the system’s success.

They are Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (Pernas), MYNIC Bhd, Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC), Red Giant Creative House Sdn Bhd (RGCH), Sirim Bhd and Media Selangor Sdn Bhd.

Selangor’s 12 local councils were also acknowledged for collectively throwing their support behind PLATS.

Mohd Najwan said Agrobank also provided business infrastructure and tents this year for 1,500 Ramadan bazaars in 15 locations across five local councils.

“As a result of this initiative, total sales transactions this year recorded through Agrobank’s facilities reached RM7.11mil,” he said, noting that among the locations with the highest performance was the Stadium Shah Alam Ramadan bazaar.

“It recorded participation from over 200 traders and sales transactions amounting to RM2.18mil, making it the most active bazaar in Selangor,” said Mohd Najwan.
