Closure of Wilayahku portal a business decision, says FT Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The cessation of the Wilayahku portal since July 1 is a business decision made by the Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) Media board, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

"YWP Media is a subsidiary of YWP and its board decided to cease its operations.

"In terms of restructuring, we have also appointed a new chief executive officer to look into the matter and we will ensure that we do not neglect the welfare of those who worked for YWP Media," she said during a press conference held after the launch of endowment fund by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) at Institut Latihan DBKL, Cheras on Thursday (July 10).

Several news portals reported that the portal's closure was due to a "critical financial situation" and that some of the staff's salaries had been withheld.

The reports also quoted YWP Media chairman Afdlin Shauki as saying that they were no longer able to continue operations due to issues related to unpaid contracts by DBKL.

"DBKL will certainly pay according to the progress of the work as it is part of the agreement," Dr Zaliha said, adding that DBKL would not pay if the work is uncompleted.

YWP Media is the publishing division of YWP and is also an organisation to assist the poor.
