THE Sarawak Welfare Department (JKM) distributed RM98.8mil in aid to 55,184 recipients statewide between January and April this year.
State Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Deputy Minister Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam said the assistance was channelled through various schemes, including aid for senior citizens, children, disabled individuals, and foster youth.
“This support eases their financial burden and encourages better living,” he said at the “Sejambak Kasih Gawai” programme.
As part of the programme, 24,101 individuals across Sarawak received festive aid.
Each eligible recipient received RM100 in cash and hampers worth RM80.
Mohamad Razi said Sarawak JKM has provided festive assistance for over 20 years.
He said this initiative could ease the people’s financial burden during the festivities.
“This aid should inspire recipients to improve their lives and remind us to be grateful and supportive of one another,” he added.
Also present at the event was Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang.
