Centralised ticketing system at Alor Setar bus terminal by May

THE first phase of upgrades at Shahab Perdana Bus Terminal in Alor Setar, Kedah, is expected to be completed by May 1 with the launch of an online, centralised ticketing system.

Alor Setar mayor Datuk Abdul Gafar Yahya said the company developing the transport hub was currently integrating the online bus ticket purchasing system with the more than 20 bus firms operating at the terminal.

“We have asked the company to present several matters, including the implementation of the ticketing system by the end of this month.

“Bus operators have also been asked to submit their application forms by April 15 to ensure the system can be implemented,” he told reporters after a meeting with bus operators.

Abdul Gafar said Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) would ensure all operators could access the system.

“All ticket counters will continue to operate as usual until the online ticketing system is fully functional.

“The terminal and toilets will remain open until midnight.

“The physical work for phase one is nearly 100% complete, with only the ticketing system pending.

“The second phase, which will begin next year, will involve construction of commercial lots, a budget hotel and food stalls,” he said as reported by Bernama.

In September last year, MBAS signed a memorandum of agreement to upgrade and manage the Shahab Perdana Bus Terminal.

The RM12mil project’s first phase includes the centralised ticketing system and terminal operating system.

The second phase involves infrastructure changes such as modification and redesign of bus routes, commercial spaces, and toilets.
