A SPECIAL visit for orphans and people with disabilities (OKU) was organised by the Desaru Fruit Farm in Kota Tinggi, Johor, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Its director Steve Er Wee Heng said the agro farm hosted guests from Pusat Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Felda Air Tawar 5 and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Islam Kota Tinggi.
“The initiative was aimed at supporting orphans and OKU in the Kota Tinggi and Pengerang areas.
“The special visit was made on Feb 20, 22 and 23,” he said in a media statement.
Er said the programme sought to empower vulnerable groups through engaging and educational activities at the farm, located 75km from Johor Baru.
He said visitors experienced interactive farm tours, hands-on soap-making workshops and informative sessions about the farm’s diverse range of fruits and animals.
Desaru Fruit Farm co-director Alice Tong said that beyond enriching activities, the visitors enjoyed a variety of fresh fruits and a nutritious lunch.
Additionally, she said, the guests received goodie bags and donations from the management and staff.
Tong said these contributions aimed to provide some relief in the daily challenges faced by orphans and the people with disabilities.
“Our mission is to create an inclusive environment where every individual, regardless of their background or abilities, has the opportunity to thrive.
“With this initiative, Desaru Fruit Farm continues to strengthen its commitment to social responsibility, fostering a sense of community and inclusion for all,” she added.
Located in the heart of Desaru Coast, Desaru Fruit Farm is an eco-tourism destination that attracts both local and international visitors.
In addition to its vast fruit orchards, the farm features a mini petting zoo, ATV rides, and paintball courses, making it a popular spot for families, students and adventure-seekers alike.
With a strong emphasis on sustainability, the farm incorporates organic farming methods and environmental conservation practices, ensuring that visitors not only enjoy their experience but also gain a deeper appreciation for Malaysia’s rich agricultural heritage, said Tong.
