PETALING Jaya City Council (MBPJ) feted close to 2,000 people from B40 families in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon also presented RM30,000 in duit raya to some 150 underprivileged children, including those under the care of two local mosques.
In addition, the children received bags, tumblers, prayer mats and festive cookies.
MBPJ also provided assistance to 100 B40 families identified through the eKasih database.
Each family received a contribution of RM300, along with festive cookies.
Mohamad Zahri handed out the aid at the city council’s buka puasa and Aidilfitri 2025 contribution presentation at Laman MBPJ in Section 52, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
The event saw MBPJ department heads and staff breaking fast with aid recipients at the open space located in front of the local council’s headquarters.
“This annual programme is part of MBPJ’s corporate social responsibility in providing assistance to those in need,” the MBPJ Corporate Communications Unit said in a media statement.
“In addition to appreciating the role of MBPJ staff, especially those who are Muslim, this programme plays a role in strengthening ties between the council and local communities.
“At the same time, it encourages charitable acts during Ramadan,” it added.
Mohamad Zahri also presented tokens of appreciation to eight strategic partners of the programme.
“As an organisation that prioritises the community’s welfare, MBPJ is committed to continuing programmes such as this to strengthen unity, cultivate values of compassion and reinforce harmony to build a more inclusive and prosperous society,” the statement added.
Separately, MBPJ will be hosting its Aidilfitri open house on April 18 at Laman MBPJ from 8pm to 11pm.
