Perak Stadium upgrade will take four to six months, says Ipoh mayor

A CONTRACTOR will be appointed to replace the grass of the Perak Stadium field and upgrade its drainage system in April, says Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

He said the upgrading works could take four to six months, with completion expected by August at the earliest.

"However, if there are any delays, it could extend to October," he told a press conference after the city council's monthly full board meeting at its headquarters on Friday (March 28).

Perak youth and sports committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah had said in October last year that the stadium would be closed to facilitate the upgrading works.

The project would be funded through a RM500,000 grant from the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Rumaizi said the initial plan was to model the stadium’s field after Johor’s.

He said technical evaluations felt that it was better to adopt the Pahang Stadium model instead.

"The stadium will undergo a final inspection before it is deemed ready for use," he added.
