Programme offers low-priced goods, RM5 Rahmah meals at various locations in Johor

Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is holding a Salam Ramadan Jualan Rahmah programme to help lower-income families during the fasting month.

State investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman Lee Ting Han said the programme’s aim aligned with the Rahmah Madani agenda.

“The public, especially those in the B40 group, should grab this chance to buy basic goods at discounted prices which will be between 10% and 30% lower.

“The programme will be carried out from 9am to 6pm at eight selected Johor locations until March 7,” he said after his walkabout at the programme’s first location, Pasar Khamis Kampung Sungai Tiram in Ulu Tiram.

The other locations are the old market site of Taman Anggerik (Bandar Tenggara), Felda Ulu Belitong community sports complex (Kluang), Dataran Cenderawasih (Larkin Jaya), Kemelah multipurpose hall in Taman Pelangi (Segamat), Benut multipurpose hall (Pontian), MS Downtown (Parit Sulong) and Mari Mari Mersing front parking area.

“It is the government’s hope that this programme will ease people’s financial burden during Ramadan,” said Lee, who is also Paloh assemblyman.

He added that the ministry had also organised Ramadan Rahmah Bazaars (RRBs).

“The RRBs encourage food traders to provide Rahmah meals, which are priced at RM5 and below,” he explained.

Eight well-known Ramadan bazaars will host the RRBs.

They are located in Taman Dahlia (Johor Baru), Dewan Jubli Intan (Muar), Taman Intan (Kluang), Bandar Utama (Segamat), Pesta (Batu Pahat), Taman Sri Saujana (Kota Tinggi), Taman Wawasan (Mersing), and Pekan Nanas (Pontian).

“We estimate that about 963 traders will operate at these bazaars that are being held until March 31,” said Lee.

He added that selected RRB locations would offer Touch ‘n Go e-wallet vouchers worth RM20 and RM100 for consumers and traders, respectively.

He said these vouchers were meant to attract visitors to the bazaars as well as expand the Retail Digital Initiative (ReDI) programme which encourages cashless payments.

“Johor KPDN is also holding the Rahmah Madani sales in conjunction with salary week at 55 selected hypermarket premises within 26 parliamentary and 56 state constituencies.

“The public can buy basic goods at low prices at these selected hypermarkets,” Lee added.
