THE Selangor government has provided grants worth RM200,000 to 20 tourism-related associations to boost the sector this year.
State local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the grants were offered based on the association's proposal on their additional promotion to attract tourists to the state in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign that is estimated to attract eight million tourists this year.
He said this at the signing of a Memorandum of Collaboration held in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2025 Exhibition at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building in Shah Alam.
“We provided RM10,000 grants each to 20 tourism-related associations for their contribution and to further promote the state tourism sector.
“We have also set up Selangor tourism-related exhibits for visitors to the state assembly session such as state assemblyman and media personnel among other guests. We want as many people to have information on our tourism activities that is displayed until Feb 21 at the foyer,” he added.
Ng also said that the state wanted to achieve eight million visitors this year and projected economic transactions worth RM11.7bil.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who attended the event, said Tourism Selangor has taken a bold step by forging strategic partnerships with private companies to amplify the momentum of Visit Selangor Year 2025.
“Four prominent companies comprising Sony Malaysia, Batik Air Malaysia, GL Play by Gamuda Land and Alpha IVF & Women Specialist have formally inked the memorandum, signifying their commitment to supporting the growth of the state's tourism industry.
“We have good theme parks in the state such as Sunway Lagoon and new players such as SplashMania Water Park.
“We have numerous hotels with great promotions that are collaborating with the state, as well as health tourism including those that offer IVF treatments,” said Amirudin.
Visit Selangor Year 2025 is a key initiative in positioning Selangor as a leading tourism destination in Malaysia and the region.
“Through strategic collaborations with various stakeholders, we are confident that the state’s tourism sector will continue to thrive, bringing positive economic impact and creating greater opportunities for local communities,” said Amirudin.
The event also featured a promotional gimmick of the official Visit Selangor Year 2025 vehicle stickers affixed to the Visit Selangor Year 2025 Roadshow fleet. This initiative, made possible through partnerships with the Selangor Concierge Association, Prestige Lane Adventure Sdn Bhd, AVIS and the Selangor 4WD Association.
