A retail pharmacy chain has unveiled its cancer support programme at a health and beauty expo held in Johor Baru, Johor.

The Big Caring Group’s “Ribbon of Hope” initiative aims to provide holistic cancer support at selected pharmacy locations across Malaysia.

It is designed to be a lifeline for both cancer patients and their caregivers, offering crucial resources to aid in their cancer treatment journey.

The initiative is structured around four essential pillars, known as CARE, which are counselling, affordable medications and accessible services, rehabilitation and recovery resources, and early detection and risk reduction.

It will assist cancer patients in navigating their journey via counselling with the healthcare professional team besides providing access to affordable medications, delivery and services to address unique needs of cancer patients.

In addition, the programme offers a wide range of medical and rehabilitation equipment to support a smooth transition from hospital to home. It also promotes awareness campaigns, cancer screenings and educational programmes that empower individuals to detect cancer early and minimise its risk factors.

Caring Pharmacy managing director and Big Caring Group spokesperson Chong Yeow Siang said, “Our goal with Ribbon of Hope Cancer CARE Programme is to provide a lifeline of support for cancer patients and their families and help patients navigate their challenges.

“Through the programme, Big Pharmacy and Caring Pharmacy are committed to offering meaningful, compassionate care and practical resources that meet the unique needs of both patients and caregivers,” he said.

Also present at the launch was National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) representative Dr Jason Chin Yu Aun.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration in enhancing public awareness on cancer prevention and screening, as well as the vital role that partnerships like the one between NCSM and Big Caring Group play in improving access to early detection initiatives and supportive care.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing between the two parties marked a significant step towards increasing cooperation in providing cancer awareness and early detection initiatives across the country.

As part of the Health and Beauty Expo held in Mid Valley Southkey, Big Caring Group and NCSM also organised a health screening initiative in Johor.

The health screening offered vital services including HPV vaccinations, clinical breast examinations, prostate-specific antigen tests, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C Rapid Antigen tests, as well as a doctor’s consultation.

In a show of continued support for the cancer community, Big Caring Group also made a generous donation to the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.

The donation included a RM20,000 sponsorship and an additional voucher sponsorship worth RM10,000.
