THE holiday season is a time for joy, reflection and community spirit and this year, local churches are stepping up with a lineup of festive events to bring people together.
From soul-stirring music to bustling markets and youth celebrations, these gatherings are perfect opportunities to experience the warmth and magic of Christmas.
Whether one is looking for family-friendly activities, ways to give back or moments of quiet celebration, these events promise to make the season extra special.
In Petaling Jaya, the Saint Francis Xavier Church is organising its Carols & Cantata 2024 at its Loyola Hall to celebrate the story of the nativity with music.
The Carols & Cantata 2024 will feature King of Kings by John W. Peterson, performed under the direction of renowned conductor Mervyn Peters and SFX Music Ministry Chief Coordinator Jasseca Anthonysamy.
“People think that the cantata is just carolling but this is so much more,” said Jasseca in an interview recently.
Taking place on Saturday and Sunday (Dec 21 and 22), the performance will begin with a serenade of classic carols followed by the cantata.
With its blend of storytelling and song, this is a must-see for music lovers and families alike.

If theatrical-styled carols and music isn't your jam, teens aged 13 to 18 years old are invited to a hyped up night of fun, fellowship, and inspiration at Lifegen’s HOPE Christmas Youth Rally this Saturday (Dec 7).
Hosted at the Sunway Mas Community Centre, the rally features a delicious food spread, cool performances, carols and plenty more activities.
“I’m so excited for this event and for people to come and see what young people can do,” said a member of Lifegen’s social media team.
“We believe that these people are the leaders of today and this Christmas party is built by the sacrifices and the efforts of our young people.”

With Christmas only a few weeks away, it seems like a good time to get started on your gift shopping list.
Happening this Sunday (Dec 8), the SIC Christmas Market at Saint Ignatius Church in Petaling Jaya has got your back.
Held at the covered carpark of the Costantini Community Centre from 7am to 1pm, this morning market will be hosting 12 unique stalls featuring crafts, cakes, plants and plenty more.
The Christmas market is the first of its kind at SIC and members of the organising team, the SIC Parents Craft Group, have been buzzing with excitement.
“This kind of event hasn't been done before. Usually at Christmas time, it's only our parents group that is selling things but this is the first time that we are inviting others to take part in this craft sale,” said Vikki Pitchay.
Many items for sale are handmade using recyclable materials by the Parents Craft Group, led by artisans like Vikki, who brings her expertise in sustainable design all the way from the Philippines to the local community.
“I don't like to do it for the purpose of just doing it for the quantity. The design, the creativity and the quality - those are the main features that I like to focus on,” said Vikki.
If you happen to be out and about in the TRX Exchange area at around 3pm or 5pm, stop by for a quick fix of guaranteed festive cheer at Kingdomcity.
Kingdomcity is hosting not one but two Christmas performances on consecutive Saturdays on Dec 14 and 21 at TRX Exchange.
In addition to jamming out to their performances, Kingdomcity’s epic Selangor State Christmas Party will also be happening on Dec 14th at 6.30pm in the Sunway Pyramid Open Carpark.
“We've been doing this for several years now,” said Jamie Raj, who works on general operations.
“Every year, we add new songs, new videos, decor, gifts to change things up so there’s something to look forward to each year.”
Lastly, if you’d rather celebrate from the comfort of your home, tune in to the Christ Evangelical Reformed Church’s Kids’ Christmas Family TV Show on Tuesday (Dec 24) live on their YouTube channel.
This event features a reimagining of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, combined with passages from the Book of James.
It’s perfect for families, caught in the hustle and bustle of life, looking to reflect on the season together.
This Christmas, let the spirit of the season bring us closer as a community.
Whether through music, supporting local businesses, or joyful gatherings, these events remind us of the importance of connection and celebration.
Make this holiday one to remember by taking part in these meaningful activities, creating memories that will last long after the decorations come down.
