The Kuala Lumpur Tourism Association (KLTA) is developing standard tourism guidelines as a benchmark for industry players in managing their business activities ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY 2026).
KLTA president Syed Azhar Syed Nadzir said these standard guidelines would focus on safety and customer service to enhance the quality of tourism and improve the satisfaction of tourists visiting the country.
He said that the standards would be developed in collaboration with stakeholders such as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Tourism Malaysia, adding industry players who comply with these standards would be recognised by KLTA.
“With these standards, service providers will know how to develop more interactive customer service and so on. If the entire city is talking about these standards and how to improve accordingly, it will be beneficial for tourism, and I believe tourists will provide more positive feedback,” he said after a visit to Wisma Bernama.
During the visit, Syed Azhar and the association members met with Bernama’s top management, including chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, and deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus.
Syed Azhar said the association planned to promote natural attractions around Kuala Lumpur to draw more tourists.
“We are looking to promote nature and adventure activities beyond Kuala Lumpur. There are many such places across the Klang Valley, especially in Selangor, like Kemensah and Ulu Yam but we also hope to highlight more of the nation’s culture and lifestyle,” he said.
Syed Azhar also said he would hold another meeting with Bernama’s top management to discuss potential collaborations to promote the tourism sector in the federal capital.
In 2018, Kuala Lumpur ranked sixth among the most visited cities globally, with 13.79 million visitors. The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry is targeting 31.4 million tourist arrivals by 2025, with expected tourism revenue of around RM125.5bil.
